Itinerary

Day 1Marrakech

You will have the first night (included) in Riad or hotel in Marrakech before starting your tour, for the reason of flight time and the earlier departure of the tour.

Day 2Marrakech to m’hamid

Departure early 7:30 from raid, enjoying the journey of wonderful – across of High Atlas mountains via the highest pass of TIZ N’TICHKA 2260m, seeing typical Amazigh villages and lush valleys by the road-side. arriving OUARZAZATE then crossing the Anti-Atlas mountain of AIT SAOUN range before enjoying the DRAA River valley as longest river in Morocco 1200KM till Atlantic coast. And flanking by glorious oasis of palms & mud-build Kasbahs and driving via AGDZ and Zagora. Overnight just outside M’HAMID in the palm grove, staying at a guest-house of region. Overnight on half-board basis.

Day 3DRAA River & MARABOUT of SIDI NAJI

After nice sleep and breakfast, short distance of driving from guest-house to M’HAMID. There, you will meet your camel caravan which is loaded with your luggage/equipment. Desert guides will also teach you to wrap your CHACH (turban), ideal protection of wind in Sahara. The morning’s trekking follows DRAA River, through the vast palm groves of its river and original settlement of M’HAMID approximate of 300 year old, have time to visit some of ancient mud- buildings houses, mostly abandoned, then enjoy the shade time offered by acacia, palms or tamarisk trees. Since the palm grove ended, you got lunch at place called RAS NKHAL (head of palm). Here, the palm trees open out the way to stony plateau scrub geographically named (Hamada), full of tamarisk trees of the daily rest of trekking. After lunch, carry on to south-west by a proximity of 2.5hrs towards the marabou of a holy man called SIDI NAJI, overnight camp will be made, clause by small dunes. Depends group trekking- time take: 5 hrs.

Day 4AREA of ZAHAR

After a calm sleep and Saharan breakfast, collecting camp then getaway to remote sand dune of ZAHAR region, it will be reached before lunch. So trekking day was largely flat, its look like a dried lake which gradually transformed into rolling sand dunes, with less wild vegetation. Desert- Camp is established nearby the dunes, this is a little-visit of small dune of region and your afternoon is given to exploring ZAHAR, reaching the highest point to enjoy the romantic views across the ERG (big sand) and then the magic sunset of Sahara desert. It’s a vantage point that gives you a look for next day route .to the wonderful view of Erg SMAR. ‘Screaming dunes’ which knew ZAHAR dunes, as a legend that tells of a village novels and history. Trekking time take: 4hrs

Day 5Erg Smar

After breakfast, then strucking camp. We will cross the DRAA River as first day, to trekking to the abandoned desert village of Erg SMAR which fortified by up of 35 families farming the land. DRAA river size bed is astonishing, given it now runs dry, but once flowed in abundance through Sahara. Water still run deeply underground here and there is a well on the river where you will replenish the water supply, with a quick shower. The human existence was evidence anywhere, the outline of agricultural and gardens, abandoned mud-buildings which were homes. The trekking day finished under the generous large shade of tamarisk trees, where camp is established – hard in Harte of Sahara area, given big size of the trees at this village. After got lunch, you could explore, the DRAA and the sand dunes that have since started to encroach on the buildings. Trekking day time: 3hrs.

Day 6Dunes of BOUGARN

After breakfast, and strucking camp. The goal was the dunes of BOUGRN, there you could come across other visitors for the first time on trekking. Departing Erg SMAR, you leave the dense behind to cross small dunes and then a broad, earth plateau, passing through an area which is possible to see traces of gazelles. northly and southly, rolling dunes are still visible. The vegetation also increasing once more, then you have lunch under the trees’ shade. After lunch, carry on through the desert to enjoy the plateau before the rolling dunes of BOUGARN. Leave your camels behind then scramble up BOUGRN sand to the nearest vantage point. By good visibility of getting nice pictures, you should see the dunes of ZAHAR and of Erg CHIGAGA. The Camp was establishing in shelter of small dunes. Trekking day time: 5-6hrs.

Day 7Dunes trekking

After breakfast, trekking day will give chance of see more green plantations, some lining the course of former river tributaries. Lunch will get under shade of tamarisk trees. Then After lunch, your trekking would a crossing a flat and fertile land. And you will come across remnants of agricultural land which is now used as pasture for grazing camels. In Sahara desert the camp will be made, in the seclusion of small sand dunes. Trekking day time: 5hrs.

Day 8Road back to M’HAMID

Left Sahara behind then toward back to M’HAMID, to complete your trekking. The Sahara moreover becomes marked by desert scrub and earth banks, and palm groves become more apparent the closer you reach M’HAMID. Lunch time break in shade then, before reaching village. Finely transport will be transfer you back to the guest-house, in hart of the palm grove. Trekking day time: 3-4hrs.

Day 9Transfer back to Marrakech

After unforgettable of Sahara spirit travel trekking departure from guest-house at early morning, to enjoy the road to Marrakech by visiting AIT BEN HADOU Kasbah in OURZAZAT then enjoy road to your Riad / hotel in Marrakech.

Day 10Transfer to Aireport

Know before you go

  • Best time of trekking: from October till April cause weather still in warm temperatures, pleasantly evenings. Lows night of freezing in December / January.
  • Vegetarian option is available, please advise at time of booking if required.

What to bring

  • Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Sun hat, Comfortable walking shoes.
  • Please make sure you prepare a small backpack/rack sack for your camel trek and overnight in the camp.
